Remember, part of the 20 minutes of daily Just Right reading homework can incorporate book talks (discussions about books). Please use the below questions/prompts to guide your conversations about books. Happy Reading!
Dear Parents and Students,
I am looking forward to our first day of school on Monday, August 26. It will be a day filled with new and exciting activities. You will see old friends from Kindergarten and make new friends as well. We will be having GYM on the first day of school. So please wear sneakers! Make sure you bring a healthy snack as well.
Please bring to school a photograph of yourself that we can hang in the room for all to see. I also want you to share a favorite book with us. You will need to talk about the title, story and favorite part. Be sure to put your name in the book!
Enjoy your last days of summer vacation. I will see you Monday morning! Come right the classroom when you arrive at Tokeneke!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Mould
Dear Parents,
If you are looking for more math activities for your child to do at home, then I strongly recommend DreamBox. DreamBox is an intelligent adaptive learning math program which provides individualized math instruction based on the developmental math level of each individual child. It personalizes games and themes that turn lessons into adventures. In addition, students show their work with unique virtual manipulatives, encouraging them to explain, discuss and defend their mathmatical thinking. It does not simply focus on right or wrong answers, but on what strategies the student uses to arrive at the answer. This program has been used with the class since the fall of first grade. Each student has logged 4 or more hours in the program and now the program has acquired enough data to calibrate DreamBox to your child’s level.
For students to access DreamBox from home:
1. Go to https://play.dreambox.com/login/cm3g I have also included this link to the right on my blog under “For Parents” and “Math games”.
2. Click on your child’s school
3. Click on your child’s class: “Mrs. Mould’s 1st Grade”
4. Have your child enter the same password they use at school
It is important to allow your child to work through the lessons and actitivies in DreamBox independently. DreamBox will continuously recalibrate the program when questions become to easy or difficult.
Have fun! If you have any questions, contact me at Tokeneke.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Mould
